Cellular Shades

Cellular Shades are one of the more popular of soft window coverings available today.  Cellular shades are popular for four primary reasons – first, they come in a wide variety of colors;  second, they are flexible in their design so that they can be raised or lowered in either direction to allow for maximum privacy; third, they are very private while allowing filtered light to enter your room; and lastly, they come in single, double or triple honeycomb construction allowing for a great insulating effect to keep your rooms warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Cellular Shades are also called cellular blinds or honeycomb shades, and  are named for the honeycomb-shaped empty pockets of air (called “cells”) that run parallel to their seams.  The honeycomb construction of the cellular shade is a more energy efficient version of a pleated shade.  Energy efficiency is affected by three primary factors.  The number of cells in the cellular shade impacts efficiency in that double-cell construction is more efficient that a single-cell construction, and triple-cell construction more efficient than double.  Larger cells are also more efficient than smaller cells, as they trap more air in their air pocket.  Lastly, the fabric weave and thickness of the fabric construction in your cellular shade will also play a large role in the insulating properties of the shade.

In general, however, cellular shades are a very durable window covering option which provides a sleek and modern accent to your room.
